SJ Scribe’s first three years

July 1, 2013, marked the beginning of an exciting journey!

Making the decision to study writing and translation while working in marketing at Wella (Procter & Gamble) demanded a lot of efforts and hard work, but how rewarding to finally be able to launch my own freelance translation activity in July 2013! Of course, doing so at the very beginning of summer – and school holidays – may not have been the wisest decision but I did not want to wait any longer. I had been dreaming of this project for so many years… I was ready to embrace this new challenge. And maybe it was not such a bad timing after all, as I quickly started to receive some translation projects.

Following the advice of my studies counsellor, a renown translator, I took my exam a few month later, in January 2014, one year earlier than initially planned. This turned out to be a very important step in my journey as a translator: passing the exam with a Merit distinction, I gained full confidence in my translation skills and understood that I was completely legitimate in the profession.

2014 was also amazing in terms of work projects as I translated internet pages for the world-famous brand Garnier and discovered the world of luxury horology with Patek Philip, which remains a great memory to this date.

The following year turned out to be quite challenging and I had to face a long period of uncertainty. Reserved by nature, I then fully grasped the difficulty of selling my activity and finding new clients. Although aware of the importance of promoting SJ Scribe, hence myself, I did truly hope that my business network and recommandations would suffice to grow my freelance activity. It did not! I only had but one choice: to be proactive and work on a marketing strategy. I was helped in that matter by a few experts I met during sales and marketing workshops specifically designed for new entrepreneurs and where I have learnt some basic and useful sales practices.

Fortunately, 2016 started on a much better note and I gained a new brand image, an improved website, new international customers, ongoing translation projects and a promising future in the translation industry. So I do feel like celebrating SJ Scribe’s third birthday, as it represent, in France, a very important milestone in the life of a company in terms of sustainability.

The story behind the Cessens website

Cessens is a charming little French village that I know pretty well since this is where I grew up. This is a place that I truly enjoy for its authenticity and its relaxing yet dynamic atmosphere. This is a place that I believe is worth knowing.

A long time ago, a country festival was organized every summer on the Sapenay hills, attracting both locals and tourists eager to experience French festivities and food. But after more than 20 years, the festival was cancelled and tourists stopped coming to the village, with the exception of free-flight amateurs. For the first time, I imagined how nice it would be to get Cessens a website and share it with travellers from all around the world.

I soon moved to the United States and forgot about this lovely idea.

Many years later, I moved back to the area and began to work as a freelance translator. In need of a website to promote my business, I trained myself on WordPress and created sjscribe.com. And I remembered: I once wanted to build a website dedicated to my home village. Since I now had the required skills, why not do it? I presented my ideas to the Mayor, who turned out to be quite enthusiastic. And so, the project was launched.

Many people have been collaborating by sending me pictures and useful information. I am truly thankful for their involvment – Thanks to them, the website is now online!

As I already mentioned, Cessens is a charming little village from the Savoie area, located above the Lac du Bourget. It is a peaceful place, inviting people to relax and enjoy the moment. But it also offers great outdoors activities such as paragliding, hang gliding, rock climbing, etc.

I invite you to check it out online and then come for a visit. I am sure you will enjoy it, whether you prefer an active vacation or a more relaxed one.

You may already know that Cessens is a nice little village located in the Savoie area! A village that is ideal for family walks and that invites visitors to relax and enjoy the surrounding natural landscapes. A village that is dearly appreciated by people living nearby, French and foreign free-flight fans, rockclimbers, mountain bikers, nature lovers and more.

Such a nice place should not remain unknown. So I decided to create a website – that will be released in a few weeks – to present Cessens and its activities and to share its beauty with the world.  However, this website should not be only mine and I want to encourage people who like Cessens to contribute. HOW DO I SEND MY PICTURES?

Please send your pictures of Cessens and Le Sapenay by email at contact@sjscribe.com before 25 April 2014. 5 pictures max per person.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Non-professional photographers who enjoy the area, whether they are locals or tourists.

WHAT KIND OF PICTURES CAN BE SUBMITTED?

The idea behind the theme is show Cessens differently. This can be achieved by submitting original pictures (angle, colors, etc.) or showcasing uncommon sites or views. Some ideas about the things you could take pictures of: monuments, landscapes, fountains, forest paths, viewpoints, animal life, plants, etc. Just be creative!

Please do not send pictures with people as they will not be accepted – in order to respect people’s privacy.

It is not required to submit new pictures. Older ones will be accepted as long as they fulfill the contest requirements.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE PICTURES

When sending your pitcures, please make sure to mention your name (or the photographer’s) and a description for each photo.

HOW WILL THE IMAGES BE SELECTED?

A vote will be organized on the www.sjscribe.com website and on its Google+ page, from 26 April to 25 May 2014. The name of the author will be mentioned, unless otherwise specified upon submission. The beginning of the voting period will be shared on the social networks, at the village townhall and by email to every participant. Voting shall be open to everyone.

HOW WILL THE PICTURES BE USED?

The most popular pictures will be displayed on the Cessens website, in different pages: home, activities, monuments, photo gallery. The name of the author will be mentioned for every image. A link to your website or additional information can also be added upon request. The author of the selected picture have the right to ask to its removal from the website at any time.
